Eastbound and westbound I-96 from Kent Lake Road to the I-275/I-696/M-5 interchange will become a ‘Flex Route’ with intermittent shoulder use and ramp metering with signals at eight ramps. Electronic message boards will alert drivers with speed advisories and traveler information. Construction work will rebuild the median shoulders which will be used as flexible lanes during peak travel periods, special events, maintenance activities, and incidents/crashes.
Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2022.
